Somerset to Exeter by Motorcycle...

Somerset to Exeter - Route 1

Starting Point - Bristol Quay, Somerset

  1. Setting off from Bristol City quay you can either ride out over the fabulous Clifton suspension bridge and then back out on the A38 past Bristol Airport. If timed right you may have seen the Bristol International Ballon Fiesta in August every year.
  2. Keep on this road until sign posted to Cheddar on the A371 where a visit to cheddar gorge is a must. A walk, museum and tours of the caves will keep you occupied for a couple hours.
  3. Leave Cheddar on the same A371 road and ride towards Wells,
  4. Head towards Glastonbury on the A39, just make sure it's not a Glastonbury festival weekend, as the road gets very busy! And ride on down to Street where a quick shop at Clarks Village is sure to bag some goodies.
  5. Drop back on to the A39 Bath road and head towards Bridgewater, where the UK's largest Carnival happens every year.
  6. Come out of Bridgewater and ride out on the A38 which will take you down to Taunton, any keen Cricketers will want to pop in to Somerset County grounds for a quick look and cup of tea.
  7. Take the A38 once again and then on to the A361 to end up in Tiverton, from here you can join a bikers dream road the A396 and follow the River Exe all the way to Exeter.
  8. You will enter from the North side and will pass the Exeter University before passing Exeter Train station.

Somerset to Exeter - Route 2

Starting Point - Minehead, Somerset

  1. Setting off from Minehead where views to the Quantocks and out to the rolling Atlantic Sea is sure to start you off on a great ride.
  2. Head out of town towards Dunster and ride along the A396 which will take you across Exmoor National Park for some glorious roads and views.
  3. This road will take you pass Wheddon Cross, Exton, Cove and down in to Tiverton. From here you want to head towards Sampford Peverell on the A361.
  4. Join the A38 and head north towards Taunton before turning south on the B3170, this will take you over the black down hills. Views once again in every direction will take your breath away.
  5. This will bring you out to the A303 where a quick squirt down will allow you join the A30 towards Chard. A fun chance here to visit Cricket St Thomas Wildlife Park.
  6. Head out of Chard and ride towards Honiton on the A30, and then the A303. Time for a tea and cream cake from one of the many tea shops, and have a look at a vast choice of antique shops which line the street.
  7. From Honiton drop back on to the A30 and sweep back down in to Exeter by dropping on to the M5, and then down the inner bypass on to Marsh Barton to arrive at Bridge Motorcycles.
