When England international Rugby player, Jack Nowell turned up at Bridge wishing to get his motorcycle licence, naturally we started him off with the fundamentals; getting the right kit for the job.
Jack has wanted to get his bike licence for a while now and an injury sustained before Christmas gave him plenty of time to contemplate finally biting the bullet and getting it done.
“I’ve always liked bikes and when I saw them out on the road I thought they were cool” the Cornishman recalled. “Being injured gives you quite a lot of free time and you want something to take your mind off it and I thought, you know what, it’s a perfect time to do it!”
Dropping by our Clothing and Accessory department recently, he wanted to get fully kitted out with all the best gear to ensure that he not only looks the part, but is also protected, should the worst happen.
Starting with the most important area to protect, Jack wanted a helmet that was up to the business and opted for HJCs R-PHA 70. For its £329.99, it offers plenty of bang for your buck too and comes laden with tech and features that few other helmets share in this price bracket.
Marrying classic good looks with modern protection, Richa’s Goodwood jacket is the perfect accompaniment to those who want something that’ll look good both on and off the bike. With its removable thermal lining too, it’ll still be great when the mercury drops too! It also comes fitted with excellent D3O armour fitted at the shoulder, elbows and back areas too, for added peace of mind.
With casually-styled riding jeans available that offer protective qualities equivalent to that of leather alternatives, there’s really no excuse to not wear gear that will keep you safe. Jack wanted a jean that would combine comfort and style with proper motorcycle protection, so we recommended a fantastic pair of classically-styled Richa Original jeans.
A good pair of boots is a staple in any bikers’ wardrobe, and Jack opted to go for a pair of TCX X-Blend boots to compliment the rest of his outfit. They match the urban styling and still provide loads of protection thanks to the reinforcement areas in the heel and toe, and they’ll keep his feet dry if he gets caught out by the ever-changing British weather thanks to the waterproof lining.
Finishing off Jacks outfit are these classically-styled gloves from Furygan. With D3O armour inserts to protect the knuckle areas, shock absorbing palm and hardwearing goatskin leather outer, these gloves are brilliant at providing style without compromise.
