Fittingly unveiled at the Bonneville Speed Week, the figures for the 2019 machine – which are each hand-built in Japan – show a sizeable power increase that will take the supercharged 998cc inline-four to a monstrous 227.8bhp. And, that’s not including the additional benefit of the ram air system, which will take this figure even higher, though Kawasaki are remaining tight-lipped about what this figure is exactly at the moment.
Impressively, they’ve managed to do this without altering the fuel economy, despite getting a 30bhp increase in power which shadows over the previous 197bhp figure, and they’ve also made the bike Euro4 compliant, which is no easy feat in this day and age.
By taking a number of parts from the supercharged sports touring cousin, the Ninja H2 SX, Kawasaki have been able to keep the fuel economy figures and emission regulations within the strict rules that govern all new motorcycles from the Euro supercharged bureaucrats. Items included in the new Ninja H2 spec include the air-filter, intake chamber, spark plugs and ECU but, critically, not the adoption of the balanced Supercharger.
The exquisite paint which helps really set the bike off has been given a unique finish that can self-heal minor scuffs and scratches, prolonging the impressive finish when exposed to warm ambient temperatures. It’s been developed by Kawasaki to work a lot faster than other paints with similar ‘healing’ qualities, but is designed to work a lot quicker, it’s impressive!
The bike will be shod with specifically-developed Bridgestone RS11 tyres which are incredibly high performing and will also come with the very latest Brembo “Stylema” calipers at the front which are super ridged and are able to help with the pad cooling too.
Also new for 2019 will be Kawasaki’s Rideology app, which will allow the rider to pair a phone with the Ninja H2, allowing the moibile device to then display useful information about the bike such as; the fuel level and battery condition as well as a riding log and service interval updates.
“The visual impact and engineering prowess of the Ninja H2 will surely increase thanks to this major update”, said Kenji Nagahara, Managing Director of Kawasaki Motors Europe. “This Supercharged machine is the physical embodiment of our corporate strength. The addition of more power, smart phone “Rideology” technology and other specification upgrades for 2019 shows that, as a company, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible and delivering cutting edge motorcycles to the market.“
Only 50 of these now-iconic motorcycles will be entering the UK next year – 40 of the Ninja H2s and 10 of the super-limited Ninja H2 Carbon machines, and you’ll have until October 31 to get your order in. The Ninja H2 will come with a price of £26,499 and the Ninja H2 Carbon will come in at £28,999. Of course, you could still opt to go for the absolutely ludicrous, 322bhp animal that is the Ninja H2R, which comes with the oh-so-bold statement of intent from Kawasaki that “this vehicle is not manufactured for public road use” and comes in at £48,000.
