Compulsory Basic Training

What is CBT?
The Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is a mandatory training course required for all learner motorcycle riders in the United Kingdom. It's designed to provide you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to ride safely on UK roads.
To take the CBT, you must hold a provisional motorcycle licence entitlement: category AM if you are 16 years old and wish to ride a moped, or category A if you are 17 or older and intend to ride a motorcycle.
After completing your CBT, you are permitted to ride a motorcycle or scooter up to 125cc with L plates, but you cannot carry passengers or ride on motorways until you pass a full motorcycle test.

What if I don't complete in one day?
Don't worry! We want you to succeed safely. If you need more time, we can arrange additional training sessions, these will typically be on a 1-2-1 basis.

UPGRADE LICENCE COURSE

About the A2 Licence
The A2 licence is available to riders aged 19 and above. Once completed, you will gain an A2 licence, also known as the standard/restricted motorcycle licence. This licence allows you to ride motorcycles producing up to 47 bhp (35 kW).
Motorcycles used for an A2 licence may be restricted to a maximum power output of 47 bhp (35 kW). However, the motorcycle can only be restricted by up to 50% of its original power output.

 

Duration: 3-7 days* | 19+ Years | Up to 47 bhp

*3-day courses are conducted on a 1-2-1 basis and require riders to have a sufficient level of riding experience.

Your course

  • You start in the classroom where your instructor will provide you with riding gear and take you through the equipment.
  • You’ll then get a good look at your bike or scooter and learn where everything is and what it does.
  • Once you’ve got to grips with the basics like turning the bike off and on and braking, you’ll ride around the training area to familiarise yourself with your machine.
  • After a thorough pre-ride briefing, you’ll be taken out on the road for at least 2 hours.
  • If your instructor is confident in your abilities on the road, you’ll leave with a CBT certificate.

FULL COURSE

JUST RIDE

Full Unrestricted Licence
The Category A licence is the full unrestricted motorcycle licence. Once you have passed, you will gain complete freedom to ride any size or power of motorcycle with no restrictions whatsoever.
Available through Direct Access for riders aged 24+, or via Accelerated Access if you've held an A2 licence for at least 2 years.

 

Duration: 3-7 days | Ages 24 years +

Your course

  • Get ride prepared by working with a 125 to hone your skills.
  • As soon as your Honda instructor feels you're ready, you’ll jump onto a bigger bike and practice manoeuvring on the training area and the road.
  • Once your instructor is confident in your abilities, the two of you will ride to the DVLA centre to take your Mod 1 off-road test.
  • After your mod 1 training and test you will return on another day to practice on the road.
  • On your last day, following more road practice you’ll take your Mod 2 on road test.

ROOKIE TO RIDER

DIRECT ACCESS COURSE

About the Rookie to Rider Package
You'll start with a two-day CBT, followed by four full days of training, and finish with your final test day, which includes both the Module 1 and Module 2 tests.
What makes this course different is that it's the only package we offer with a Pass Assured option. For a set fee, you'll receive your Full 7 Day course followed by any additional training and tests required for up to 6 months, giving you the confidence and support to pass without the pressure of extra costs.

 

Duration: 7 days | 19+ for A2 licence (47bhp restricted) | 24+ for Full A licence (unrestricted)
 

Your course

Days 1 & 2 — CBT
Two-day CBT to build your foundation skills and get you comfortable on a motorcycle
Days 3-6 — Training towards MOD1 & MOD2
Four full days of intensive training covering all aspects of Module 1 and Module 2 test requirements
Day 7 — MOD1 & MOD2 Tests
Your final test day — complete both tests and earn your full motorcycle licence!
